ABSTRACT: The role of vocational education in supporting sustainable agricultural innovations is crucial for advancing environmentally-friendly farming practices and enhancing food security. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of vocational programs in sustainable agriculture, identify key competencies required for careers in this field, and assess student readiness for employment in sustainable agriculture. A survey design was employed to collect data from students enrolled in agricultural vocational programs. The sample size included 200 students from various technical institutions specializing in agriculture and environmental sciences. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with a background in agricultural studies. The case study was conducted at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that vocational education significantly improved students' understanding of sustainable agricultural practices, enhanced their technical skills in innovative farming techniques, and prepared them effectively for careers in sustainable agriculture. Students reported high levels of satisfaction with the training, noting the practical applications and environmental impact of the skills acquired. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their sustainable agriculture curricula and foster partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure training programs remain relevant and impactful.
