ABSTRACT: Developing vocational education programs for careers in green chemistry is crucial for promoting sustainable industrial practices and environmental stewardship. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of current vocational programs in green chemistry, identify the key competencies required for careers in this field, and assess the readiness of students for green chemistry roles. A survey design was employed to collect comprehensive data from students enrolled in vocational chemistry programs. The sample size included 250 students from various technical institutions specializing in chemical and environmental sciences. Purposive sampling was used to select participants with a foundational knowledge of chemistry and interest in sustainability. The case study was conducted at the University of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that vocational education significantly improved students' understanding of green chemistry principles, enhanced their technical skills in sustainable chemical practices, and prepared them effectively for employment in green chemistry careers. Students reported high levels of satisfaction with the training, highlighting the practical applications and environmental impact of the skills acquired. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their green chemistry curricula and foster partnerships with industry stakeholders to ensure training programs remain relevant and impactful.
