ABSTRACT: The role of vocational education in supporting sustainable aquaculture practices is critical for promoting environmentally friendly and efficient fish farming techniques. This study aimed to explore how vocational education can enhance sustainable aquaculture practices, identify key skills and competencies required for sustainable aquaculture, and assess student readiness for employment in this field. A survey design was chosen to gather comprehensive data from students enrolled in vocational programs related to aquaculture. The sample size consisted of 200 students from various technical institutions specializing in aquaculture and environmental science. Purposive sampling was utilized to select participants with a background in agricultural studies. The case study was conducted at the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that vocational education significantly improved students' understanding of sustainable aquaculture practices, enhanced their technical skills in fish farming, and prepared them effectively for employment in the aquaculture industry. Students expressed high levels of satisfaction with the training, emphasizing the relevance and applicability of the skills acquired. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their curricula to include more comprehensive sustainable aquaculture modules and foster collaborations with industry stakeholders to ensure training programs remain relevant and impactful.
