ABSTRACT: The role of vocational education in promoting smart grid technologies is critical for developing a workforce proficient in advanced energy systems. This study aimed to assess how vocational education programs contribute to knowledge and skill development in smart grid technologies, identify the key competencies gained, and evaluate student satisfaction with the educational programs. A survey design was employed to collect detailed insights from participants involved in smart grid vocational training. The sample size comprised 200 students from various technical institutes. Purposive sampling ensured the selection of students with direct experience in smart grid education. The case study was conducted at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, Nigeria. Findings indicated that vocational education significantly improved students' technical proficiency in smart grid technologies, enhanced their problem-solving skills, and increased their understanding of energy management systems. Students reported high satisfaction levels with the curriculum, highlighting its relevance and practical applications. It was recommended that vocational training institutions expand their smart grid programs, incorporate hands-on training modules, and collaborate with industry stakeholders to keep the curriculum up-to-date with technological advancements.
