ABSTRACT: Innovations in Assessing Practical Skills in Vocational Education address the need for more effective and accurate methods of evaluating students' practical competencies. This study explored various innovative assessment techniques and their impact on student performance and skill validation. The objectives were: to identify current assessment practices and their limitations, to evaluate the effectiveness of innovative assessment methods, and to propose best practices for implementing these innovations in vocational education. A survey design was utilized to gather detailed data from students, educators, and industry professionals, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of assessment innovations. A sample size of 300 respondents was chosen using a purposive sampling technique to include participants with relevant experience in practical skills assessment. The case study focused on the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State. Findings indicated that innovative assessment methods, such as digital portfolios, simulations, and peer assessments, significantly improved the accuracy of skill evaluations and student engagement. It was recommended that vocational institutions should adopt these innovative assessment methods, provide training for educators on their implementation, and continuously review and improve assessment practices to ensure they meet industry standards and student needs.
