ABSTRACT: This study addresses the future skills needs in vocational education, focusing on identifying emerging skill demands, technological advancements, and global trends shaping vocational career pathways. Anticipating and preparing for future skills requirements are critical to ensuring vocational graduates remain competitive and adaptable in evolving job markets. The objectives were to (1) analyze current trends and forecasts influencing future skills needs in vocational sectors, (2) identify key competencies and technical skills essential for future job roles, and (3) propose strategies to align vocational education programs with future workforce demands. A survey research design was chosen to gather insights from industry experts, vocational educators, and policy makers, exploring their perspectives on future skills gaps, training priorities, and strategies for curriculum adaptation. The sample size comprised 200 participants, selected through purposive sampling to include stakeholders from diverse industries and vocational training institutes across Nigeria. The case study focused on Abuja, the federal capital territory known for its dynamic economic environment and initiatives supporting vocational education reforms. Findings highlighted emerging skills such as digital literacy, data analytics, and sustainability practices as critical for future vocational careers. Effective strategies included curriculum updates incorporating emerging technologies, industry partnerships for real-world applications, and continuous professional development for educators on future skill trends. Recommendations included fostering industry collaboration, integrating interdisciplinary learning approaches, and implementing flexible learning pathways to prepare vocational students for future workforce challenges and opportunities.
