ABSTRACT: This study examines the impact of apprenticeship programs on vocational skill retention, focusing on their role in enhancing practical competencies, industry knowledge, and long-term career outcomes. The objectives were to (1) assess the benefits of apprenticeship programs in developing and retaining vocational skills, (2) evaluate factors influencing skill retention among apprenticeship graduates, and (3) propose strategies to optimize apprenticeship programs for sustainable skill development. A survey research design was employed to collect data from apprentices, employers, and vocational educators, exploring their experiences with apprenticeship programs and perceptions of skill retention. The sample size included 220 participants, selected through purposive sampling to include apprenticeship graduates and industry partners across Nigeria. The case study focused on Lagos State, known for its diverse apprenticeship opportunities and thriving industrial sectors. Findings indicated that apprenticeship programs significantly enhanced participants' technical skills, workplace readiness, and employment stability. Factors contributing to skill retention included hands-on training, mentorship from experienced professionals, and industry certification. Recommendations included expanding apprenticeship opportunities, enhancing employer engagement in program design, and standardizing quality assurance measures to ensure apprenticeship effectiveness.
