ABSTRACT: This study explores the role of creativity and innovation in vocational skill development, focusing on their influence on enhancing students' practical abilities and adaptability in evolving job markets. The objectives were to (1) assess the importance of creativity and innovation in fostering vocational skills, (2) identify effective strategies and practices integrating creativity and innovation into vocational training, and (3) propose recommendations to optimize creativity and innovation in vocational education. A survey research design was chosen to gather insights from vocational educators, industry experts, and students, examining their perceptions and experiences with creativity and innovation in skill development. The sample size comprised 200 participants, selected through purposive sampling to ensure representation from diverse vocational disciplines and educational levels across Nigeria. The case study focused on Rivers State, known for its initiatives in promoting creative industries and vocational training programs. Findings indicated that integrating creativity and innovation enhanced students' problem-solving abilities, entrepreneurial mindset, and readiness for dynamic work environments. Effective practices included project-based learning, design thinking workshops, and collaborations with creative industries. Recommendations included embedding creativity and innovation across vocational curricula, fostering partnerships with creative sectors, and providing professional development for educators to incorporate innovative teaching methods.
