ABSTRACT: This study explores innovations in vocational education for sustainable development, aiming to integrate environmental stewardship and sustainable practices into vocational training programs. The objectives were to (1) identify key sustainability challenges and opportunities in vocational education, (2) evaluate current innovations and initiatives promoting sustainable development within vocational curricula, and (3) propose strategies to enhance the role of vocational education in fostering sustainable practices. A survey research design was utilized to gather data from vocational educators, environmental experts, and industry stakeholders, offering insights into sustainability initiatives and their impact on vocational training. The sample size included 180 participants, selected through purposive sampling to ensure representation from vocational institutions and environmental organizations across Nigeria. The case study focused on Ogun State, known for its initiatives in promoting sustainable practices and environmental education. Findings revealed that while there was growing recognition of sustainability in vocational education, implementation varied across institutions. Effective innovations included integrating green technologies into vocational labs, incorporating sustainability modules into vocational curricula, and fostering partnerships with eco-friendly industries for practical training. Recommendations included establishing sustainability standards for vocational programs, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration on sustainability issues, and advocating for policies that prioritize environmental education in vocational training.
