ABSTRACT: This study examines the importance of addressing cultural competency in vocational education programs, aiming to prepare students for diverse and inclusive workplaces. The objectives were to (1) assess the current state of cultural competency education in vocational training, (2) evaluate the impact of cultural competency on student preparedness and workplace integration, and (3) propose strategies to enhance cultural competency education within vocational programs. A survey design was employed to gather data from vocational students, educators, and industry professionals, providing insights into the effectiveness of existing cultural competency initiatives. The sample size included 210 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to ensure a broad representation of cultural backgrounds and vocational fields. The case study focused on Kano State, Nigeria, a region with diverse cultural dynamics. Findings indicated that cultural competency education was limited and often not systematically integrated into vocational curricula. Students who received cultural competency training were better prepared for diverse work environments and demonstrated improved interpersonal skills. Recommendations included integrating comprehensive cultural competency modules into all vocational programs, providing ongoing professional development for educators on cultural issues, and fostering partnerships with culturally diverse organizations to offer practical exposure and learning opportunities.
