ABSTRACT: This study examines the impact of work-based learning (WBL) on vocational skill acquisition, highlighting its role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The objectives were to (1) assess the effectiveness of WBL in enhancing vocational skills, (2) evaluate the experiences of students and employers with WBL programs, and (3) identify best practices for implementing WBL in vocational education. A survey design was chosen to collect data from students, educators, and employers, ensuring diverse perspectives on WBL programs. The sample size included 200 participants, selected through a purposive sampling technique to include those directly involved in WBL. The case study focused on Kaduna State, Nigeria, an area with a robust vocational training system. Findings indicated that WBL significantly improved skill acquisition and job readiness, providing students with hands-on experience and industry exposure. Challenges such as coordination between schools and industry and logistical issues were noted. Recommendations included enhancing collaboration between educational institutions and industry, providing support for students during placements, and developing standardized guidelines for WBL programs to ensure consistency and quality.
