ABSTRACT: This study investigates the effectiveness of experiential learning in developing vocational skills, focusing on the hands-on, practical approaches that enhance learners' competencies. The objectives were to (1) assess the current use of experiential learning methods in vocational training programs, (2) evaluate the impact of these methods on skill acquisition and retention, and (3) identify barriers to the effective implementation of experiential learning. A survey design was selected to collect data from trainees, educators, and industry professionals, providing a holistic view of experiential learning practices. The sample size was 180 participants, chosen using a purposive sampling technique to ensure relevant and experienced respondents. The case study was based in Kano State, Nigeria, known for its robust vocational training initiatives. Findings demonstrated that experiential learning significantly improved skill acquisition and retention, making training more relevant and engaging for learners. However, challenges such as inadequate resources, insufficient training for instructors, and a lack of standardized frameworks were identified. Recommendations included increasing investment in training facilities, providing professional development for instructors in experiential learning techniques, and developing standardized guidelines to ensure consistent application of these methods across vocational programs.
