Abstract: The role of digital badges in recognizing non-traditional vocational skills is vital for validating and showcasing diverse competencies. This study examines the effectiveness of digital badges in recognizing and promoting non-traditional vocational skills. The objectives are: (1) to assess the impact of digital badges on student motivation and skill recognition, (2) to evaluate employer perceptions of digital badges, and (3) to propose strategies for implementing digital badge systems. A survey research design is utilized to collect data from students, educators, and employers. The sample size includes 250 participants selected through purposive sampling. The case study focuses on vocational institutions in Rivers State, known for their innovative approaches to skill recognition. Findings indicated that digital badges significantly enhanced student motivation, skill recognition, and employability. However, challenges such as ensuring badge credibility and maintaining up-to-date badge systems were noted. Recommendations included developing standardized criteria for digital badges, providing training for educators on badge issuance, and promoting employer awareness of the value of digital badges.
