Abstract: This research explores the role of competency frameworks in aligning vocational education with industry needs in Nigeria, examining competency-based education models, skills frameworks, and industry standards designed to ensure vocational programs meet current industry demands and prepare students for successful careers in evolving job markets. Competency frameworks outline essential skills, knowledge areas, and performance criteria necessary for vocational students to achieve proficiency and meet industry standards, enhancing workforce readiness and employability. The study aims to (1) assess the impact of competency frameworks on vocational education quality, curriculum development, and student skill acquisition, (2) analyze perceptions and experiences of educators, industry professionals, and policymakers regarding the effectiveness and relevance of competency-based education models, and (3) propose recommendations for integrating competency frameworks, enhancing skills-based training, and fostering industry partnerships to align vocational education with emerging industry needs, promote career success, and support economic growth. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from vocational educators, industry leaders, and skills development experts familiar with competency frameworks and skills-based education outcomes. A sample size of 300 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational educators, industry trainers, and policymakers in Ebonyi State. Case studies will examine successful competency-based education programs and their outcomes in enhancing student skill development, industry collaboration, and workforce alignment. Findings indicated positive impacts of competency frameworks on curriculum relevance, identified challenges such as skills assessment methodologies and industry alignment gaps, and highlighted effective practices such as industry consultations, competency mapping, and certification pathways in advancing skills-based vocational education. Recommendations include curriculum standardization, competency assessment tools, and collaborative initiatives to strengthen competency-based education frameworks, enhance vocational training quality, and ensure student readiness for industry demands in Nigeria.
