Abstract: This research analyzes the effectiveness of apprenticeship tax credits in promoting vocational training in Nigeria, focusing on government incentives, tax policies, and financial incentives designed to encourage employer participation in apprenticeship programs and support workforce development initiatives. Apprenticeship tax credits aim to reduce employer costs, incentivize skill development, and promote apprenticeship opportunities that bridge the gap between education and employment in vocational fields. The study aims to (1) assess the impact of apprenticeship tax credits on apprenticeship program participation, employer engagement, and vocational training outcomes, (2) analyze perceptions and experiences of stakeholders regarding the benefits and challenges of apprenticeship tax credit policies, and (3) propose recommendations for optimizing tax credit schemes, expanding apprenticeship opportunities, and enhancing employer incentives to foster sustainable workforce training and development in vocational education. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from vocational training providers, employers, and policy makers familiar with apprenticeship tax credit policies and outcomes. A sample size of 300 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational training providers, employer associations, and government officials in Ogun State. Case studies will examine successful apprenticeship tax credit programs and their outcomes in promoting employer engagement, apprentice retention, and skill development in vocational training. Findings indicated positive impacts of apprenticeship tax credits on apprenticeship program expansion, identified challenges such as administrative burdens and eligibility criteria, and highlighted effective practices such as employer incentives, partnership collaborations, and program flexibility in optimizing apprenticeship tax credit benefits. Recommendations include simplifying tax credit processes, expanding eligibility criteria, and enhancing awareness and support for apprenticeship tax credit programs to strengthen vocational training opportunities, support employer investment in workforce development, and promote sustainable apprenticeship pathways in Nigeria.
