Abstract: This research explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on vocational job displacement in Nigeria, examining automation, AI technologies, and digital transformations reshaping job roles, skills requirements, and employment prospects in technical fields and vocational industries. AI advancements have the potential to streamline operations, increase productivity, and transform business models, leading to changes in job functions and workforce dynamics across vocational sectors. The study aims to (1) assess the extent of AI adoption and its implications for vocational job displacement and workforce restructuring, (2) analyze perceptions and experiences of stakeholders regarding AI impacts on vocational careers and skill demands, and (3) propose strategies for mitigating job displacement risks, reskilling initiatives, and fostering AI-adaptive vocational training programs to prepare workers for future job markets. A survey research design is employed to gather insights from vocational professionals, industry experts, and AI technology providers familiar with AI adoption trends and workforce impacts. A sample size of 300 participants will be chosen through purposive sampling to represent vocational educators, AI developers, and industry leaders in Delta State. Case studies will examine AI integration in vocational settings and its effects on job roles, skills requirements, and workforce adaptation strategies. Findings indicated varying degrees of AI adoption across vocational sectors, identified challenges such as job displacement concerns and skill mismatches, and highlighted the role of AI education, continuous learning, and adaptive skills development in preparing vocational workers for AI-driven industries. Recommendations include fostering AI literacy, expanding reskilling programs, and promoting agile workforce strategies to harness AI technologies effectively while ensuring vocational job security and sustainable career pathways.
