Abstract: This study examines the role of micro-credentials in recognizing vocational skills in Nigeria, focusing on digital badges, industry certifications, and modular credentials designed to validate and showcase specific competencies and skills acquired through vocational education and training programs. Micro-credentials offer flexible, stackable credentials that enable vocational students to demonstrate mastery of targeted skills and enhance employability in evolving industries. The research aims to (1) assess the impact of micro-credentials on enhancing vocational students' job prospects and career advancement opportunities, (2) explore perceptions and experiences regarding the adoption and recognition of micro-credentials by employers and educational institutions, and (3) propose recommendations for integrating micro-credentialing frameworks to enhance skill validation, industry alignment, and workforce readiness in vocational education. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from vocational students, employers, and educational stakeholders familiar with micro-credentialing initiatives and outcomes. A sample size of 400 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational students, HR managers, and industry trainers in Lagos State. Case studies will examine successful micro-credentialing programs and their outcomes in promoting skill validation and professional development among vocational graduates. Findings indicated positive perceptions of micro-credentials among employers and educators, identified challenges such as standardization and credential portability issues, and highlighted the role of digital platforms, competency-based assessments, and industry partnerships in enhancing micro-credential adoption and recognition. Recommendations include expanding micro-credential offerings, establishing quality assurance mechanisms, and promoting awareness and acceptance of micro-credentials to strengthen their value and utility in vocational education and the labor market.
