Abstract: This research evaluates the effectiveness of online labs in technical training in Nigeria, examining virtual laboratory environments and simulations as innovative tools for delivering practical skills training in vocational and technical education programs. Online labs replicate hands-on learning experiences in a virtual setting, offering flexibility, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness in enhancing technical skills development and experiential learning opportunities. The study aims to (1) assess the implementation and utilization of online labs in technical training programs, (2) evaluate the impact of online labs on student learning outcomes, skill proficiency, and engagement in practical exercises, and (3) propose recommendations for optimizing online lab integration to improve technical training effectiveness and educational quality in Nigeria. A survey research design is employed to gather insights from technical instructors, students, and online learning specialists. A sample size of 400 participants will be chosen through purposive sampling to represent technical educators, online lab developers, and vocational students in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory. Case studies will examine successful online lab implementations and their outcomes in enhancing technical skills acquisition and student satisfaction. Findings indicated positive student perceptions towards online labs' accessibility and interactive learning experiences, identified challenges such as infrastructure limitations and technical support needs, and highlighted the role of instructional design and simulation fidelity in optimizing online lab effectiveness. Recommendations include investing in digital infrastructure, providing faculty training in online pedagogy, and integrating hands-on simulations to enhance technical training delivery and student learning experiences.
