Abstract: This study explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in vocational skill development in Nigeria, investigating AI technologies' integration into training programs and their impact on skill acquisition and workforce readiness. As AI continues to revolutionize industries globally, its application in vocational education holds promise for enhancing training efficiency, personalizing learning experiences, and preparing students for AI-driven workplaces. The research aims to (1) examine current AI technologies used in vocational skill development and their effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes, (2) assess the perceptions and experiences of educators and students regarding AI integration in vocational training, and (3) propose strategies for optimizing AI applications to maximize vocational skill development and prepare students for AI-centric careers. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from vocational educators, AI technology developers, and industry practitioners. A sample size of 300 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent vocational institutions, AI technology providers, and industry stakeholders in Lagos State. Case studies will explore AI-driven vocational training initiatives and their outcomes. Findings indicated positive perceptions towards AI's role in skill enhancement, identified challenges in technology accessibility and integration, and highlighted the need for training educators in AI pedagogies. Recommendations include investing in AI infrastructure, providing professional development for educators, and fostering collaborations between vocational schools and technology firms to harness AI's full potential in vocational skill development.
