Abstract: This research examines strategies for reducing dropout rates in vocational schools in Nigeria, addressing factors contributing to student attrition and promoting retention and completion in vocational education programs. Dropout rates pose significant challenges to vocational education outcomes and workforce development, highlighting the need for targeted interventions and support mechanisms to ensure student success and program completion. The study aims to (1) identify socio-economic, academic, and institutional factors influencing dropout rates in vocational schools, (2) analyze effective retention strategies and support systems implemented in vocational institutions, and (3) propose recommendations and best practices for reducing dropout rates and improving student retention in vocational education. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from students, educators, and educational administrators. A sample size of 400 participants will be chosen through purposive sampling to represent vocational students, dropout prevention programs, and educational policymakers in Osun State. Case studies will examine successful retention initiatives and their impact on student persistence. Findings indicated that socio-economic factors, lack of support services, and academic challenges contribute to dropout rates, underscoring the importance of holistic student support and personalized interventions. Recommendations include enhancing career counseling, providing financial assistance, and implementing mentorship programs to foster a supportive learning environment conducive to student retention and success in vocational schools.
