Abstract: This research addresses strategies for improving retention rates in technical education programs in Nigeria, focusing on factors influencing student persistence and program completion. Retention rates in technical education often lag behind those of traditional academic programs, reflecting unique challenges such as curriculum intensity, financial constraints, and limited support services. The study aims to (1) identify barriers to student retention in technical education, (2) analyze effective retention strategies implemented by educational institutions, and (3) propose recommendations for enhancing student support and engagement. A survey research design is employed to gather insights from students, educators, and administrators. A sample size of 400 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent technical colleges and polytechnics in Niger State. Case studies will highlight successful retention initiatives and their impact on student outcomes. Findings revealed that financial difficulties, academic preparedness, and lack of mentorship contribute to high dropout rates in technical education. Recommendations include expanding scholarship opportunities, enhancing academic advising and career counseling services, and implementing peer mentoring programs to support student retention and academic success.
