Abstract: This study addresses the skills gap in Nigeria through vocational training programs designed to bridge mismatches between educational outputs and industry needs. Rapid technological advancements and evolving job requirements underscore the urgency for targeted skill development initiatives that enhance workforce readiness. The research aims to (1) identify key skills gaps in priority sectors, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of current vocational training programs in addressing these gaps, and (3) propose strategies for improving alignment between educational outcomes and industry demands. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from employers, educators, and vocational training graduates. A sample size of 500 participants will be selected through purposive sampling to represent sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and information technology in Lagos State. Case studies will showcase successful interventions and partnerships fostering skills development. Findings indicated significant mismatches in technical skills, soft skills, and industry-specific competencies, exacerbated by outdated curricula and limited industry collaboration. Recommendations include enhancing industry-academia partnerships, integrating work-based learning and apprenticeships, and adopting agile curriculum development processes to address dynamic skill demands and promote sustainable economic growth.
