Abstract: This study evaluates the effectiveness of competency-based education (CBE) in addressing skills gaps and enhancing employability in technical fields in Nigeria. Traditional education models often struggle to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and evolving industry needs, prompting a shift towards competency-based approaches that prioritize mastery of specific skills. The research aims to (1) assess the alignment of CBE with industry requirements, (2) analyze its impact on skill acquisition and employment outcomes, and (3) identify challenges and strategies for successful implementation. A survey research design is justified to gather insights from educators, employers, and CBE graduates. A sample size of 300 participants will be chosen through purposive sampling to ensure representation from technical institutions and relevant industries in Ogun State. Case studies will highlight institutions that have effectively integrated CBE into their programs. Findings revealed that CBE enhances skill relevancy, promotes self-paced learning, and improves job placement rates. Recommendations include standardizing competency frameworks, enhancing assessment methodologies, and fostering partnerships between educators and industry to ensure curriculum alignment with workforce demands.
