ABSTRACT

Nigeria as a politically independent nation since October 1st, 1960. The country is richly blessed with natural resources, which includes; oil, rubber, cocoa, coal, kolanut, limestone, among others. Before oil was discovered in 1956 at Oloibiri in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria, agriculture accounted for about 75 percent of the country income and employment. The role of agriculture and its sector plays in any nations cannot be overemphasized, shortly after oil has been discovered, there was a shift of emphasis from agriculture and this has not done the country any good as Nigeria now largely dependent on proceeds from oil. No nation can survive without the great inputs of the agricultural sector. This research work is to show a methodological proof how efficient private public partnership could be in the development of agriculture and to encourage more partnerships between private and public sector. The research work enumerates the numerous benefits inherent in private/public partnership with the agricultural sector.
