EXCERPT FROM THE STUDY

  1. The major causes of examination malpractice among numerous others include; unpreparedness of students for examinations, the desire to satisfy parents ambition, and poor teaching /learning habits, injustice in the punishment of culprit/insincerity in tackling the problem, students lack of self confidence, incessant staff strikes that often interrupt the school programme, benefits derived by vendors of examination papers, peer group influence,  and poor logistics for examinations.
  2. There are variety of methods students utilizes in carrying out examination malpractice, among them include; Copying other students work, writing on body parts, bringing-in prepared answers into examine hall, writing in special centers, use of hidden notes in restrooms, replacing old script with new one, exchanging written answers, hiring other people, and the use of cell phones and calculators.
  3.  Teachers and school authorities also promotes exam malpractice by colluding with invigilators, invigilator conniving with students, teachers sending prepared answers, leaking examination papers by teachers and intentional wrong sitting by teachers/invigilator.
  4. Environmental factors such as inadequate learning facilities, remote examination centers, crowded examination hall, leakages of question papers and corruption by assisting others to cheat also contributes to examination malpractice.
