ABSTRACT
Cancerofthecervixremainsthemostcommonmalignantneoplasmofthefemalegenitaliaandthesecondmostcommoncancerinfemalestudents.CervicalCancersscreeningservestodetectthepossibilitythatacancerispresent.ThemainobjectiveofthestudywastodeterminetheknowledgeandacceptabilityofCervicalsCancerScreeningamongFemalePart-TimeStudentsinUniversityofBenin.Thehypothesisforthestudywas:thereisnorelationshipbetweenknowledgeofcervicalcancerandacceptabilityofcervicalcancerscreening.Surveyresearchdesignwasusedinthestudy.Simplerandomsamplingwasusedtoselectthesample.Thesampleconsistedof200FemalePart-TimeStudentsinUniversityofBenin.Datawascollectedusingquestionnaire.Thestudyfindingsrevealedthatslightlyabovehalfmorethanhalfof(74%)oftherespondentswerebetweentheageof20-25years,58(77%)respondentscouldnotrememberageoftheirfirstsexualintercourse,themajority168(86%)ofrespondentshaveheardofcervicalcancer,majority126(63%)ofrespondentsheardaboutcervicalcancerfrommedia,hundredandtwo(51%)participantsexplainedcervicalcancerasabnormallesiononthecervix,sixtyfour(32%)respondentsstatedthatunprotectedsexualintercourseisariskfactorofcervicalscancer,sixty(30%)ofrespondentsstatedthatabnormalvaginalbleedingisasignofcervicalcancer,120(60%)respondentsstatedthatcervicalcancercanbedetectedbycervicalscancerscreening,majority194(97%)ofrespondentsstatedthatcervicalcancersscreeningisdoneinhospital,majority178(89%)ofrespondentshadneverbeenscreenedforcervicalcancers,majority94(47%)ofrespondentsstronglyagreedthatcervicalcancerscreeningisimportant,themajority144(72%)oftherespondentshadnointentionofgoingforcervicalscancerscreening,majority80(40%)ofrespondentsstatedthatlackofawarenesstocervicalcancersscreeningisamajorbarriertocervicalcancerscreening.ThestudyrecommendsamongothersthatnursesshouldengagemoreongivingInformationEducationandCommunication(IEC)atalllevelsofHealthCareDeliverytowardcervicalcancersscreening.CervicalcancersscreeningcentershouldbemadeavailableinuniversityofBeninhealthcenteratsubsidizedamountsothatfemalestudentscaneasilyaccesstheservice.
