ABSTRACT

This study examines the determinance of induced abortion among undergraduates students in Nigeria. Specifically, the study examines the determinant of induced abortion among undergraduate students in Nigeria, examines the negative consequences or disadvantages of induced abortion by undergraduate students, and identify the best possible ways to prevent or reduce the negative effect caused by induced abortion among undergraduate students. The study employs the survey descriptive research design. A total of 259 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopts the social control theory of Hirchi (1960). From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings reveals that the determinants of induced abortion among undergraduate students in Nigeria include not married, school disruption, child too young and unplanned pregnancy. Furthermore, the findings reveals that the negative consequences or disadvantages of induced abortion by undergraduate students include negative social relationships, suicide attempts, health complications and self- condemnation. The study recommends that there is a need for proper education about the harmfulness of abortion. The study further recommends proper education, awareness, training session and guidance should also be given to the people who are involved in abortion.
