Abstract
This research work investigated the role of field work in teaching and learning of geography in Niger Delta College of Education Warri. The persistent decline in field work, lecturer’s effectiveness, academic performance and attitude of students as well as mass failures in geography examination, necessitated this study. To achieve this study, the issue of Lecturers teaching method, performance and students’ attitude toward geography were examined. Four Objectives and research questions were raised. The study employed the descriptive/simple survey research design. The sample for the study consisted of 200 students of department of geography in Niger delta college of education Warri. Personal visits were made to department for the distribution of the questionnaire. Two hundred (200) copies were distributed to selected students. Two hundred (180) completed copies were also collected back. The researcher made use a structured four scale point rating scale questionnaire in gathering the necessary data suitable for the study. The questionnaire was made up of two sections; section “A” was on the Bio data of the respondents while section “B” was made up of fifteen (15) items. The Data were analyzed using means score, Results of the study showed that. The role of field work has a significant impact on teaching and learning geography, Field work has significant effect on students’ performance in geography courses, Field work has a significant effect on student’s attitude toward geography in Niger state college of education and Field works has a significant effect lecturer’s effectiveness in teaching geography course in Niger state college of education.
