ABSTRACT
Reading is undeniably a very important part of the educational structure of Nigeria. Unfortunately, trends have proven that there is a decline in the reading habit and interest of students in reading, at all levels of the educational system of Nigeria. (Acheaw, 2014). Various researches have proven that that the frequency of reading, reading attitudes, reading interests and the environment of students play a vital role in academic growth. The objective of this study was to investigate the role of examination grades in shaping students reading habits in schools. The study was conducted in federal university of Nigeria, Otuoke, Bayelsa state. A comprehensive questionnaire was used for the data collection from faculty of agriculture and social sciences. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 20 was used to analyze the data collected quantitatively. Graphs, charts and tables were used to present the results of findings. The study identified that students read for other reasons other than to score well in exams, and also identifies that examination grades plays a significant role in students reading habits.
