THE IMPORTANCE OF CRITICAL THINKING AND CREATIVE THINKING IN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study examined the the importance of critical thinking and creative thinking in educational system in Nigeria. The study intends to ascertain whether critical and creative thinking is important in educational system in Nigeria, examine the causes of poor attitude towards critical and creative thinking in educational system of Nigeria and determine the extent to which a different teaching approach might stimulated greater enthusiasm for intensive critical and creative thinking in our educational system. The survey design was employed. The population of study consisted of 30 respondents. The results of the study showed that critical and creative thinking is important in educational system in Nigeria. Also, the causes of poor attitude towards critical and creative thinking in educational system of Nigeria is lack Of direction From Yourself or Others,being Afraid of Failure, being Afraid of Rejection and never Changing or Adapting to the Situation. Lastly, to a large extent  different teaching approach might stimulate greater enthusiasm for intensive critical and creative thinking in our educational system. Based on the results. It was recommended that  in order to achieve the educational objective of raising morally and well-adjusted individuals who can think independently and rationally, curriculum developers need to include in the science and mathematics curricula, critical thinking learning and assessment strategies in order to develop critical thinking skills of students.
