Abstract

This research work explored the public understanding of the mass media and child trafficking in Nigeria using Enugu urban residents as the focus. Meanwhile the researcher adopted survey researcher method to study attitudes, perception and response of the public living in Enugu metropolis. A population of 722,664 was studied with a sample size of 400 determined through Taro Yamane method. Selective perception theory was reviewed and adopted as the theoretical framework. Research questionnaires were designed and distributed as an instrument for data collection. Therefore, variables were analyzed using percentage and chi-square arithmetic formula. It was observed that the media play effective role in the fight against child abuse. The researcher recommended that the electronic media in Enugu should create consistent programmes that focus on the fight against child abuse.
