ABSTRACT
Flood is not only a local environmental problem but also a challenge that is faced globally. It is a phenomenon that has caused severe loss of lives and properties in different settlements both in developed and developing countries. In Nigeria, flooding is experienced annually in both urban and rural areas. This research assesses the environmental impact of flood on agricultural activities and its environs. The study area was Kwale, in Ndokwa west L.G.A. of Delta state. The trend of flooding events indicated that poor drainage system may be one of the major causes of floods in the area. However, further study showed that the communities and properties washed away were situated by the flood plains and were at risk of inundation during the rainy seasons. It also discusses the effects the socio-economic and environmental well-being of the victims affected and also the huge impact on agriculture and food security.
