Background of the study
This study evaluates the translation challenges encountered in rendering Hausa news content in Kano, a critical issue for local media and public communication. Hausa news translation involves converting information from major languages into Hausa, ensuring that local audiences receive accurate, timely, and culturally relevant news (Sani, 2023). Translators face difficulties such as preserving idiomatic expressions, managing technical jargon, and adapting cultural references to suit local contexts. The study investigates these challenges by analyzing translated news segments, conducting interviews with professional translators, and surveying audience responses. It examines the impact of translation errors on news comprehension and credibility, as well as the strategies employed by translators to overcome these obstacles. The research also considers the role of technological aids in improving translation accuracy and timeliness. By identifying common pitfalls and best practices, this study aims to contribute to the development of standardized guidelines for Hausa news translation, ultimately enhancing media reliability and public information dissemination in Kano (Sani, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Despite concerted efforts to translate news content accurately into Hausa, significant challenges persist in Kano. Issues such as misinterpretation of technical terms, loss of idiomatic meaning, and inconsistencies in cultural adaptation have led to errors that compromise news accuracy (Sani, 2023). These challenges not only diminish the quality of news reporting but also affect public trust in media outlets. The lack of standardized translation protocols further exacerbates these problems, resulting in variable quality across different news organizations. This study seeks to identify and evaluate these translation challenges, with the aim of proposing strategies to enhance the fidelity and reliability of Hausa news translations.

Objectives of the study:

To evaluate common translation challenges in Hausa news content.

To assess the impact of these challenges on news quality.

To recommend standardized translation protocols.

Research questions:

What challenges affect Hausa news translation in Kano?

How do these challenges impact news accuracy?

What strategies can improve translation quality?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it addresses key translation challenges in Hausa news, contributing to enhanced media credibility and better public information dissemination. The findings will guide news organizations and translators in Kano toward improved translation practices (Sani, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to evaluating translation challenges in Hausa news content in Kano, focusing on media analysis and translator interviews.

Definitions of terms:

Translation challenges: Difficulties encountered in converting text from one language to another.

News content: Information and reports disseminated through media.

Cultural adaptation: Adjusting content to align with local cultural contexts.
