Background of the study
Twitter threads offer a dynamic platform where linguistic creativity meets strict brevity. In Nigeria, users engage in extended discussions through threads that frequently exhibit innovative morphosyntactic constructions (Ibrahim, 2023). The character limitations of Twitter prompt users to condense information into succinct, yet structurally complex, messages that often deviate from conventional grammar. These threads showcase creative adaptations such as novel clause linkages, unconventional punctuation, and hybrid syntactic forms that reflect both global digital trends and local linguistic practices. This study investigates the morphosyntactic innovations present in Nigerian Twitter threads by analyzing a wide range of topics—from political discourse to entertainment. It explores how digital constraints and audience expectations drive users to modify traditional syntax and morphology, resulting in a vibrant and evolving linguistic landscape (Okafor, 2024). By documenting these changes, the research aims to contribute to digital linguistics and sociolinguistic theory, offering insights into the broader impact of social media on language evolution.
Statement of the problem
Although innovative morphosyntactic patterns are observable in Nigerian Twitter threads, there is limited research that systematically examines these structures. Most studies focus on individual tweets or overall digital language trends rather than the detailed, thread‑based syntactic modifications unique to Twitter (Chukwu, 2023). This gap impedes our understanding of how digital constraints foster systematic language change and restricts the development of robust models for analyzing morphosyntactic innovation in online discourse (Ibrahim, 2023).

The study focuses exclusively on Twitter threads among Nigerian users, excluding other social media platforms and offline interactions.
