Background of the study
Digital audio content has become a key dimension of modern communication, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram at the forefront of this evolution. In Nigeria, users on these platforms exhibit notable phonetic variations in their audio clips, employing creative alterations in pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm (Ibrahim, 2023). TikTok videos often feature exaggerated or stylized speech patterns, while Instagram audio trends reflect a blend of natural conversation with digital enhancements (Okafor, 2024). This study examines how these digital practices contribute to phonetic innovation and variation among Nigerian users. It explores the influence of digital editing tools, cultural factors, and platform-specific constraints on speech production. By comparing audio trends on TikTok and Instagram, the research aims to document emerging phonetic phenomena and assess their implications for traditional speech patterns (Adebayo, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Although digital audio content is widely produced on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, there is limited research on the phonetic variations specific to Nigerian users.
