Background of the study
Viral hashtags have transformed digital communication by shaping not only content but also linguistic structures. In Nigeria, Twitter movements driven by viral hashtags have sparked notable changes in morphosyntactic patterns. Users condense complex ideas into compact messages, leading to the emergence of innovative sentence structures and grammatical forms (Ibrahim, 2023). Hashtags, initially introduced as a means to categorize content, now serve as catalysts for language change, influencing how syntax and morphology are reconfigured in digital discourse. This study investigates the impact of viral hashtags on Nigerian morphosyntactic structures by comparing different Twitter movements. It examines the creative use of hashtags that alters word order, punctuation, and sentence construction, thereby challenging traditional language norms (Okafor, 2024). The research highlights how digital activism and social mobilization intertwine with linguistic innovation, documenting the processes through which hashtags drive systematic morphosyntactic evolution. By analyzing a corpus of tweets associated with viral hashtags, the study aims to elucidate the mechanisms of digital language change and their broader implications for Nigerian communication (Adebayo, 2023).
Statement of the problem
Although viral hashtags are known to influence language use on Twitter, there is limited research on their specific effects on Nigerian morphosyntactic structures. Existing studies often focus on hashtag popularity and content analysis, neglecting the structural linguistic changes induced by these digital phenomena (Chukwu, 2023). This gap impedes our understanding of how hashtags reshape syntax and morphology in online communication. Without comprehensive analysis, the transformative impact of viral hashtags on traditional language structures remains underexplored, limiting the formulation of robust linguistic models in digital contexts (Ibrahim, 2024).

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it investigates the effect of viral hashtags on Nigerian morphosyntactic structures, offering a detailed analysis of digital language change. The findings will contribute to the fields of sociolinguistics and digital communication by elucidating how hashtags drive innovative syntax and morphology in online contexts (Ibrahim, 2023).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study focuses solely on viral hashtag movements on Nigerian Twitter. It does not extend to other social media platforms or offline communication, ensuring a concentrated examination of the specified phenomenon.
