Background of the study
Morphosyntactic variation in digital communication reflects the evolving nature of language in response to technological and cultural shifts. Twitter threads, as extended conversations on a microblogging platform, offer a unique opportunity to observe these variations in Nigerian social media. Users construct multi-part messages that often blend standard language with innovative morphosyntactic structures, resulting in a dynamic interplay between traditional grammar and digital creativity (Ibrahim, 2023). This study investigates how Twitter threads serve as a forum for morphosyntactic experimentation, where constraints such as character limits and real-time interaction foster unconventional sentence structures and word formations. Nigerian users employ a variety of techniques, including ellipsis, unconventional punctuation, and the integration of emojis, to modify conventional syntax and morphology (Okafor, 2024).
