Background of the study
Digital influencers have become pivotal in shaping language trends on social media, and their impact on morphosyntactic patterns in Nigeria is increasingly evident. Instagram, as a visually oriented platform, provides influencers with the opportunity to craft distinct discourses that merge creative expression with linguistic innovation (Okoro, 2023). The language used by influencers is characterized by unconventional morphosyntactic structures that diverge from traditional grammatical norms, reflecting both global trends and local linguistic heritage (Ibrahim, 2024). This study examines the influence of influencer discourse on morphosyntactic patterns, investigating how curated Instagram posts contribute to the emergence of novel language forms. Influencers often blend standard language with innovative constructions to engage their audiences, creating a dynamic interplay between formal grammatical rules and creative expression (Chukwu, 2023). The research focuses on the comparative analysis of these patterns against conventional language usage, seeking to understand the role of digital media in driving morphosyntactic evolution. The findings will elucidate the extent to which influencer discourse shapes everyday communication and impacts language standards within the Nigerian digital landscape (Adebayo, 2023).
Statement of the problem
While digital influencers are recognized for their linguistic creativity, there is a paucity of research specifically addressing how their discourse impacts Nigerian morphosyntactic patterns. Most studies have concentrated on lexical or stylistic changes rather than the structural aspects of language (Ibrahim, 2023). This gap prevents a comprehensive understanding of how digital influencer language challenges traditional grammatical norms and influences language evolution. Furthermore, without comparative analysis, the differences between influencer-driven morphosyntactic innovations and conventional language practices remain unclear (Okoro, 2024).
Objectives of the study
Research questions
Significance of the study
This study is significant as it examines the transformative role of digital influencer discourse on Nigerian morphosyntactic patterns. The research will offer valuable insights for linguists, educators, and media professionals by highlighting the interplay between digital innovation and traditional language structures (Ibrahim, 2024).
Scope and limitations of the study
The study is limited to analyzing Instagram posts by Nigerian digital influencers, focusing exclusively on morphosyntactic patterns. It does not extend to other social media platforms or offline communication practices.
