Background of the Study
Religious fanaticism, characterized by rigid dogmatism and intolerance, has profound implications on interpersonal dynamics and family relationships (Ibrahim, 2023). In Emuoha, deeply rooted religious sentiments sometimes escalate into extreme behaviors that strain familial bonds (Okoro, 2024). Emerging literature suggests that when religious fervor becomes uncompromising, it can lead to conflicts within families, affecting communication, support, and overall cohesion (Adamu, 2023). Cultural and social frameworks in Rivers State contribute to these dynamics, with differing interpretations of religious doctrines causing intergenerational clashes and marital discord (Chukwu, 2025). This study examines the extent to which religious fanaticism disrupts family structures and adversely affects the emotional well-being of family members, drawing on recent theoretical and empirical works (Olayinka, 2023). The investigation seeks to unpack the underlying causes and consequences of these disruptions, highlighting both the social and psychological dimensions involved.
Statement of the Problem
Religious fanaticism in Emuoha has been linked to increased family discord and weakened relationships, yet systematic studies on this issue remain scarce (Eze, 2023). Conflicts arising from extreme religious practices have led to reduced familial communication and support, adversely affecting emotional stability (Balogun, 2024). The paucity of empirical research hinders the development of interventions that could mediate these conflicts (Afolabi, 2023). This study addresses the need to critically evaluate the impact of religious fanaticism on family relationships to propose viable solutions for conflict resolution.
