Background of the Study
Residential segregation in Ogbomosho North has profound implications for social integration, community cohesion, and overall urban development (Ibrahim, 2023). Divisions based on economic, ethnic, or cultural lines create physical barriers that inhibit interaction and foster social exclusion (Adebanjo, 2024). Such segregation often results in unequal access to public services, educational opportunities, and employment, reinforcing socio-economic disparities. The study examines how segregated residential patterns affect community interaction, trust, and collective identity, thereby influencing the broader social fabric of the area (Okafor, 2025). By analyzing spatial data, community surveys, and policy frameworks, the research seeks to uncover the underlying causes of segregation and its detrimental effects on social integration. This inquiry is critical for developing policies that promote inclusivity and equitable urban development (Ibrahim, 2023).

Statement of the Problem
Residential segregation in Ogbomosho North hinders social integration and reinforces socio-economic inequalities (Ibrahim, 2023). Segregated living patterns limit opportunities for cross-cultural interaction, reduce access to quality public services, and deepen community divides (Adebanjo, 2024). These conditions contribute to social isolation and mistrust among residents, impeding efforts to build cohesive and resilient communities (Okafor, 2025). This study aims to critically assess the impact of residential segregation on social integration to inform policies that promote inclusivity and reduce urban inequality.

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To examine the extent and causes of residential segregation in Ogbomosho North.
  2. To assess the impact of segregation on social integration and community cohesion.
  3. To recommend policy measures for fostering inclusive residential environments.

Research Questions:

  1. What are the primary factors contributing to residential segregation in Ogbomosho North?
  2. How does residential segregation affect social integration among residents?
  3. What policy interventions can promote greater social cohesion?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Residential segregation significantly impedes social integration.
  2. Segregation exacerbates socio-economic disparities among residents.
  3. Targeted policy interventions can improve social cohesion.

Significance of the Study
This study provides essential insights into the effects of residential segregation on social integration, offering guidance for policymakers and urban planners to foster more inclusive communities. Its findings will support strategies aimed at reducing urban inequality and enhancing community cohesion in Ogbomosho North (Ibrahim, 2023; Adebanjo, 2024; Okafor, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to examining the effect of residential segregation on social integration in Ogbomosho North.

Definitions of Terms:

  • Residential Segregation: The physical separation of groups into different neighborhoods based on socio-economic or cultural factors.
  • Social Integration: The process by which individuals from diverse backgrounds form cohesive communities.
  • Community Cohesion: The strength of relationships and sense of solidarity among community members.
