Background of the Study
Solid waste disposal in Sapele has emerged as a critical urban challenge, affecting public health, environmental quality, and overall quality of life (Bennett, 2023). Rapid urbanization has led to increased waste generation, overwhelming existing disposal systems and leading to unsanitary conditions in many communities (Ramirez, 2024). Traditional disposal methods, including open dumping and uncontrolled landfills, pose significant health risks and environmental hazards. In recent years, efforts have been made to introduce more sustainable waste management practices, such as recycling and waste-to-energy conversion; however, implementation has been inconsistent (Patel, 2025). The study investigates the efficacy of various waste disposal methods in Sapele and evaluates their impacts on residents’ health and the environment. It further explores community perceptions and government policy interventions aimed at improving waste management practices (Bennett, 2023).
Statement of the Problem
In Sapele, inadequate solid waste disposal methods have led to environmental degradation and adverse health outcomes for residents (Bennett, 2023). Traditional practices such as open dumping contribute to air, water, and soil pollution, exacerbating public health issues (Ramirez, 2024). Inconsistent implementation of modern waste management techniques further complicates the situation, leaving communities vulnerable to the negative effects of waste accumulation (Patel, 2025). This study aims to address these critical challenges by evaluating the current disposal methods and their socio-environmental impacts.

Significance of the Study
This study provides valuable insights into solid waste disposal practices and their impact on community health and the environment. Its findings will assist policymakers in developing sustainable waste management strategies that promote environmental conservation and public well-being (Bennett, 2023; Ramirez, 2024; Patel, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
The study is limited to appraising solid waste disposal methods and their impacts on urban residents in Sapele.
