Background of the Study:
Rapid urbanization in Owerri Municipal has significantly reshaped the delivery and accessibility of public health services. As the urban population expands, the demand for quality healthcare increases, often outpacing the available infrastructure and resources (Nwosu, 2023). The challenges include overcrowded hospitals, limited access to specialized care, and stretched public health budgets. These issues are compounded by the socio-economic disparities that characterize urban centers, where marginalized groups face disproportionate health risks (Egbuna, 2024). This study critically examines how rapid urbanization affects the efficiency, accessibility, and quality of public health services in Owerri Municipal. By analyzing data from healthcare facilities, patient surveys, and government reports, the research assesses the impact of urban growth on service delivery and identifies gaps in policy implementation (Uche, 2025). The study emphasizes the need for comprehensive urban health planning that aligns infrastructure development with the growing demands of a rapidly urbanizing population, ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all residents.
Statement of the Problem:
Owerri Municipal is grappling with deteriorating public health services as rapid urbanization strains existing healthcare infrastructure. Overcrowded facilities and limited resources compromise the quality of care, particularly for vulnerable populations (Nwosu, 2023). The current system struggles to meet increasing demands, necessitating an urgent review of health policies and resource allocation (Egbuna, 2024).
