Background of the Study
Church doctrine exerts a profound influence on the personal and medical decisions of its adherents, including those related to infertility treatment. In Akoko North East Local Government Area, Ondo State, religious teachings significantly shape opinions regarding the acceptability and appropriateness of various infertility treatments. Many congregants rely on doctrinal guidance when confronted with reproductive challenges, often preferring natural or faith-based remedies over modern medical interventions (Olatunji, 2023). These preferences are reinforced by sermons, counseling sessions, and community support groups that interpret medical phenomena through a religious lens (Ajayi, 2024). However, the rigid adherence to church doctrine can sometimes lead to the rejection of scientifically proven treatments, thereby affecting the overall effectiveness of infertility management. This study investigates how church doctrine influences treatment choices among individuals and couples facing infertility issues. It aims to explore the balance between religious beliefs and medical advice, shedding light on the potential conflicts and synergies between faith-based practices and modern reproductive medicine (Afolabi, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
In Akoko North East, adherence to church doctrine regarding infertility treatments has created challenges for couples seeking effective medical intervention. The influence of religious teachings often leads to the preference for traditional or faith-based remedies, which may not align with contemporary medical practices. This divergence raises concerns about the quality of care and treatment outcomes for individuals facing infertility. The study seeks to identify the extent to which church doctrine affects treatment choices and to propose recommendations for integrating faith with modern medical practices (Olatunji, 2023; Ajayi, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To evaluate the influence of church doctrine on infertility treatment choices.
  2. To assess the discrepancies between faith-based and modern treatment approaches.
  3. To recommend strategies for integrating religious beliefs with effective medical practices.

Research Questions:

  1. How does church doctrine influence infertility treatment decisions in Akoko North East?
  2. What are the perceived benefits and drawbacks of faith-based versus modern treatments?
  3. How can religious guidance be harmonized with medical advice to improve treatment outcomes?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Church doctrine significantly influences the choice of infertility treatments.
  2. Adherence to religious teachings may lead to the rejection of modern medical interventions.
  3. Integrative strategies can enhance treatment outcomes by reconciling religious beliefs with medical science.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the effects of church doctrine on infertility treatment choices in Akoko North East. The findings will provide insights for healthcare providers, religious leaders, and policymakers to develop approaches that respect religious values while promoting effective medical treatments, ultimately improving reproductive health outcomes (Afolabi, 2025).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to evaluating the effects of church doctrine on infertility treatment choices in Akoko North East Local Government Area, Ondo State, without extending to other health issues or regions.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Church Doctrine: The set of beliefs and teachings officially endorsed by a church.
  2. Infertility Treatment: Medical and/or faith-based interventions aimed at addressing reproductive challenges.
  3. Reproductive Medicine: A branch of medicine focused on diagnosing and treating infertility.
