Background of the Study
Youth radicalization has emerged as a critical challenge in many communities, prompting the need for effective intervention strategies. In Ijebu East Local Government Area, Ogun State, religion plays a complex role in both exacerbating and mitigating radical tendencies among young people. Religious institutions and leaders are often at the forefront of community outreach programs that aim to counter extremist narratives through education, mentorship, and moral guidance (Ola, 2023). At the same time, certain misinterpretations of religious doctrines may contribute to radicalization if not adequately addressed (Segun, 2024). This dual role necessitates a careful evaluation of how religious frameworks can be harnessed to promote peace and social stability. The study examines the strategies employed by religious organizations, their impact on youth behavior, and the broader implications for community safety. By integrating qualitative and quantitative methods, the research aims to provide a nuanced analysis of the role of religion in combating youth radicalization and to propose practical recommendations for enhancing these efforts (Akin, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
In Ijebu East, youth radicalization poses a significant threat to community stability. Although religious institutions have initiated programs to counter extremist ideologies, challenges persist due to conflicting interpretations of religious texts and the lack of cohesive strategies. These issues result in fragmented efforts that are insufficient to curb radical influences among the youth. The study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of religious interventions in addressing radicalization, identify gaps in current approaches, and recommend comprehensive strategies that leverage religious teachings to foster peace and resilience (Ola, 2023; Segun, 2024).
