Background of the study:
Digital entrepreneurship is rapidly transforming traditional economic landscapes by leveraging technology to create innovative business models. In Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, the youth have increasingly embraced digital platforms to initiate entrepreneurial ventures, ranging from e-commerce to tech start-ups (Akpan, 2023). This trend is driven by improved internet penetration, affordable technology, and a growing awareness of the benefits of digital innovation. Digital entrepreneurship not only offers an alternative to conventional employment but also fosters creativity, job creation, and economic diversification (Okoro, 2024). However, despite these opportunities, challenges such as inadequate digital infrastructure, limited access to capital, and regulatory uncertainties persist (Etim, 2025). This study investigates the extent and impact of youth involvement in digital entrepreneurship, examining how these ventures contribute to local economic development while also identifying barriers that need to be addressed for sustainable growth (Akpan, 2023).
Statement of the problem:
Although digital entrepreneurship presents promising opportunities for youth in Uyo, many young entrepreneurs struggle with infrastructural deficits, lack of funding, and unclear regulatory frameworks. These challenges limit the scalability and sustainability of digital ventures, necessitating a closer investigation into the obstacles and potential solutions (Okoro, 2024).
