Background of the Study:
The rise of online political debates has significantly reshaped the political landscape by providing platforms for discussion and exchange of ideas. In Oron Local Government, Akwa Ibom State, digital debates have emerged as a critical avenue for political discourse, allowing citizens to engage with political issues and candidates in real time (Ibeneme, 2023). These debates facilitate a broader dissemination of political information and offer an alternative to traditional media, thereby enhancing voter education and participation (Okon, 2024). Moreover, the interactive nature of online debates encourages critical thinking and can influence public opinion by exposing voters to diverse viewpoints. However, the quality and credibility of these debates can be affected by factors such as partisan bias, misinformation, and the polarization of opinions. With the increasing reliance on digital platforms for political discussions, it becomes essential to understand how online debates impact voter decision-making and the overall electoral process in Oron Local Government (Udo, 2023). This study intends to critically assess these dynamics in a local context, providing insights into the evolving nature of political communication.

Statement of the Problem:
While online political debates have become prevalent in Oron Local Government, their effectiveness in shaping voter decisions remains unclear. Many citizens are exposed to biased or unverified information, which may distort their electoral choices. This situation necessitates a thorough investigation into the impact of online debates on voter decision-making, considering the challenges of misinformation and digital polarization (Ibeneme, 2023).

This study will aid political stakeholders and regulators in understanding the influence of online debates, ultimately contributing to more informed electoral processes and improved political communication in Oron Local Government (Ibeneme, 2024).
