Background of the Study:
Access to orthodox healthcare services remains a critical issue in rural communities, particularly in Ivo Local Government, Ebonyi State. Many residents face challenges such as long travel distances, limited infrastructure, and a shortage of qualified healthcare professionals, which impede timely and effective medical care (Chukwu, 2023). These barriers are compounded by socio-economic disparities and cultural beliefs that may favor traditional practices over modern medical interventions (Obi, 2024). The study examines how infrastructural deficits, resource allocation, and policy limitations affect healthcare accessibility. Recent research indicates that improving rural healthcare requires a holistic approach that addresses both physical and socio-cultural barriers (Ike, 2025). Consequently, this study aims to critically assess the current state of orthodox healthcare accessibility and recommend sustainable strategies to enhance service delivery, ensuring that rural populations receive equitable and quality medical care.
Statement of the Problem:
Rural communities in Ivo Local Government face significant challenges in accessing orthodox healthcare services due to infrastructural deficits, scarcity of medical personnel, and inadequate health facilities. This limited access contributes to delayed diagnoses, poor treatment outcomes, and overall dissatisfaction with the healthcare system. The existing gaps in service delivery necessitate an evaluation of barriers to access and potential interventions that can improve healthcare quality and availability in these communities (Chukwu, 2023).
