Background of the study
Digital transformation, marked by the integration of digital technologies into everyday business practices, has significantly reshaped consumer markets worldwide. In Lagos State, digital transformation initiatives between 2010 and 2020 have revolutionized retail, banking, and communication sectors by introducing online platforms, mobile applications, and e-commerce solutions. These changes have not only enhanced consumer convenience but also altered purchasing behaviors and market dynamics (Oluwaseun, 2023). Digital tools enable consumers to access a wider range of products and services at competitive prices, while also promoting transparency and price competitiveness. However, challenges such as cybersecurity concerns, digital literacy gaps, and infrastructural limitations persist and affect market outcomes (Chinwe, 2024). Empirical studies indicate that when effectively implemented, digital transformation can drive significant shifts in consumer behavior and stimulate economic growth by fostering innovation and enhancing market efficiency (Ibrahim, 2025). This study examines how digital transformation has reshaped consumer markets in Lagos State and identifies key drivers and barriers to its success.
Statement of the problem
Despite rapid digital transformation, consumer markets in Lagos State face challenges including cybersecurity risks, digital literacy issues, and uneven technology adoption (Oluwaseun, 2023; Chinwe, 2024). These challenges impede the full benefits of digital market integration, resulting in inconsistent consumer experiences and reduced market efficiency. The study aims to identify the determinants of these challenges and propose strategies to optimize digital transformation for improved consumer outcomes.
