Background of the Study:
Globalization has profoundly transformed local economies, and its impact on traditional crafts in Ikere Local Government is significant. Local artisans, who depend on time-honored skills to create culturally resonant products, now face competition from mass-produced goods and modern production techniques (Akinola, 2023). Although globalization can open new markets and foster innovation, it also risks eroding traditional craftsmanship and cultural authenticity (Fashola, 2024). The interplay between global market forces and indigenous production methods necessitates a thorough evaluation of the challenges and opportunities faced by local crafts and industries. This study examines how globalization affects the sustainability of traditional crafts and explores strategies that balance market expansion with cultural preservation (Adewale, 2025).

Statement of the Problem:
Local crafts and industries in Ikere are challenged by globalization. The influx of mass-produced goods and modern techniques threatens traditional craftsmanship and local economic stability (Akinola, 2023). This study evaluates these impacts and explores strategies to ensure that globalization does not erode the cultural and economic foundations of indigenous industries (Fashola, 2024).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To appraise the effects of globalization on local crafts.

  2. To assess the impact of modern industrial practices on traditional industries.

  3. To recommend strategies for preserving indigenous craftsmanship amid globalization.

Research Questions:

  1. How does globalization affect local crafts in Ikere?

  2. What challenges do traditional industries face from global market influences?

  3. What measures can be implemented to safeguard local crafts and industries?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Globalization negatively impacts the sustainability of local crafts.

  2. Modern industrial practices reduce the demand for traditional products.

  3. Policy interventions can mitigate the adverse effects of globalization on indigenous industries.

Significance of the Study:
This study provides insights into the interplay between globalization and indigenous industries. Its findings will assist policymakers and community leaders in promoting sustainable local craftsmanship and economic resilience (Akinola, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to Ikere Local Government, Ekiti State, focusing on the effects of globalization on local crafts and industries. Limitations include potential biases in market data and reliance on qualitative analyses.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Globalization: The process of increasing economic and cultural integration on a global scale.

  2. Local Crafts: Traditional handmade products reflecting indigenous cultural practices.

  3. Modern Industrial Practices: Contemporary production methods characterized by mass production and technological innovation.
