Background of the Study
Digital journalism has transformed news dissemination by providing rapid, accessible, and interactive platforms that influence public perception. In Uyo, digital news outlets play a significant role in shaping opinions about governance and political accountability (Etim, 2023). As traditional media face declining viewership, digital journalism emerges as a critical tool for transparency and accountability. The immediacy and interactivity of digital platforms allow citizens to engage in real-time discussions and challenge official narratives (Ibekwe, 2024). However, the proliferation of digital content also raises concerns about accuracy, bias, and the spread of misinformation (Okon, 2025). This study explores how digital journalism impacts public perception of governance in Uyo, analyzing the ways in which online news influences trust in government institutions and civic participation. By examining audience engagement and content quality, the research seeks to identify the factors that shape public opinion in the digital era.
